3rd installment from the joint production of

The long-awaited reissue of Wada's 1985 LP OFF THE WALL,
recorded in Berlin and originally released on the esteemed FMP label.
A minimalist yet majestic monsterpiece ("massive", as Tom
Johnson declares in his perceptive liner notes), OFF THE WALL features
Wada and Wayne Hankin on bagpipes, Marilyn Bogerd on adapted
organ, and percussionist Andreas Schmidt-Neri.
The original album consisted of two side-long pieces recorded on successive
days by Jost Geber, who captured the power and dynamics of the quartet
without losing the meditative delicacy of the bagpipes and the intricacy
of their interplay with the homemade organ (constructed by Wada), resulting
in a slowly evolving mosaic of combination tones and overtones. Simultaneously
static yet changing, rooted and ethereal, homespun and alien, ancient and
very modern, the music is created entirely with acoustic instruments but
has "electronic" textures at times, yet is very warm and human,
always pulsing, shifting and mutating.
EM Records is pleased indeed to release OFF THE WALL for the first time
ever on CD, with the bonus track "Die Konsonanten Pfeifen (The
Consonant Pipes)", a slightly earlier recording with Wada and
Hankin on bagpipes and Kevin Newhoff on percussion, originally released
as a cassette.

なんだか海外でえらい反響のエム・レコード＆オメガポイント＜ヨシワダ探訪の旅＞。第三弾は待望の独FMP音源に更にボーナストラックを付けての世界初CD化（強烈ドラッギー60分超）。
ますます加速するヨシワダ探検。今回は最初のLP『ラメント・フォー・ザ・ライズ・アンド・フォール・・・』から３年後にリリースされた、これも今ではレアな『オフ・ザ・ウォール』の復刻である。手がけたのはヨーロッパ・フリージャズの中心的レーベルであるドイツのFree
Music Production (FMP)。「なんでFMP？」と思った人も多いようだが、前回の「ジ・アポインテッド・クラウド」の３年前に演奏されていることを考えれば、彼のスタイルは実験的なドローン演奏から、すでに集団的な即興演奏にシフトしていた時期だったのである。
それにしてもこの派手でにぎやかな演奏！『ラメント・フォー・・・』のB面で聴かれる濃密なバグパイプのドローンは、短い反復を延々とタレ流す狂躁的没入演奏に変貌し、40分ぶっ通しで続く。ティンパニが土俗的な楔を打ち込む。この、あくまで「演奏」に重心があるこの録音の後、もともと持っていた空間への興味からインスタレーションへ発展、そしてあの「ジ・アポインテッド・・・」で完成を迎える。整然と配置された「バグパイプ状楽器」のジャケ写真は、まさにその過程を示したものだ。その到達点に向かうパワーが全開でとどろく、これまた超絶ドラッギー傑作なのである。
エム・レコードが私財を投げ打って手がけたこの「ヨシワダ計画」。実は本当の最終兵器を放つ前に、この作品が急きょ出されることになった。ワダ氏がノリ気なのである。単なる名盤復刻にとどまらない、作家の創作の隠された源泉に分け入る孤高の作業と、それに応じる作家の新たな意欲。ありそうで滅多にない理想的なコラボレーションである。
